Learn the right way to do The knowledge.
We'll show you how to learn London.
At The Taxi Academy, we recommend doing the knowledge as set out by by TfL. This means you must cover the quarter mile radius at the beginning and end of each route (Runs). You will find this methos beneficial as you prepare for yor map test.
1. DO Directional Runs
Learn the main roads
We here at The Taxi Academy are of the belief that learning all the main roads and direction of all bridges across the Thames before starting the actual Blue Book Runs, the Direction Runs are a good introduction to understanding the streets of London, also making the Blue Book Runs easier to execute.Having your sence of Direction is vital to understanding the streets of London. You will be guided throughout in the execution of these Runs.
2. Blue Book Runs
With 1/4mile radius
The Blue book consist of 320 Runs which you must learn thoroughly, each run consist of a cluster of points of interest at the start of the run, along the route and at the finish of the run. These points of interest should be located while doing the run, here at the Taxi Academy, we do on the road tuition which will include doing the first run with the student on the road. We recommend two Runs per day along with the point of interest. Remember this is not a sprint, it's a marathon.
3. Calling Over
Revising points & runs
Once you have completed a portion of the Runs with the points, you now have to memorise them, this is done by constantly calling them over so that you implant them in your mind, in due coarse you will start to invision the streets and the points in your mind, in knowledge language this is called ( seeing it ). As for the points, the same process applies, constantly testing yourself until the points are also implanted in your mind.
4. Doing Point to Point
Call over partner(COP)
Once you start to memorise & visualise your Runs, it is advisable that you find someone on the Knowledge to call over your Runs and points with, the more you call your Runs the clearer they will become, then you should be able to link two points together from a run in the most direct route, using your Knowledge of the respective Blue book run.
You will be guided and mentored at The Taxi Academy throughout your studying until you gain that coveted Green or Yellow Badge.
